WHY ATTEND A GIU CAMP

In 2010, GRIDIRON UNIVERSITY (GIU) Football Brotherhood was created to increase the number of football student-athletes graduating from high school and earning college scholarships throughout the football community. During this time a significant number of under-served students were not obtaining scholarships due to various factors including but not limited to: lack of exposure, poor grades and bad character. GRIDIRON UNIVERSITY developed a unique curriculum that was taken from the black fraternities' beliefs in solidarity and above all else BROTHERHOOD! Also combining academics, athletics and life skills. The GIU curriculum would be delivered by national instructors, motivational speakers, college and NFL coaches along with community mentors. This formula would make GRIDIRON UNIVERSITY the top Football Family in America! And YES, I am my BROTHERS KEEPER......GIU 4 LIFE

PURPOSE

Use football as a vehicle to improve the number of high school students in ALL communities that graduate high school and also attend college. Our mission is to create well rounded young men that understand the GIU formula for SUCCESS:

STUDENT + ATHLETE + SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY + SOUND DECISION MAKING = SUCCESS

LIFE SKILLS - SESSIONS

The Life Skills component of the “GIU” BROTHERHOOD is critically important to Student-Athlete development. Life Skills are the areas outside of the classroom and playing field that either enhance or derail the student-athletes development and progress in high school and college. These sessions are led by the GIU staff and other guest speakers along with college coaches.

Life Skills sessions include but are not limited to:

  • Personal Branding. Personal branding is essentially the ongoing process of establishing a prescribed image or impression in the mind of others about an individual, group or organization.
  • Social Media 101. Ten years ago, athletes built influence through local appearances, media interviews, endorsements and out-performing their competition. Interactions with sports fans were reserved for autograph sessions or the occasional dinner interruption. Social Media has changed everything. The good, bad and ugly about social media.
  • STD Awareness. Providing teen health education awareness utilizing proven evidence-based comprehensive sexual health education that encourages abstinence and risk reduction behaviors Lesson Plans & Educational Material about STD Prevention and Treatment.
  • Alcohol & Drug Awareness. Designed to educate campers about substance abuse through an engaging presentation meant to challenge their behavior toward drugs and alcohol.

CHALK TALK

The chalk talk sessions allows College Coaches to provide classroom instruction on each position specific area of football.

  • Offensive Line
  • Defensive Line
  • Wide Receivers
  • Running Backs
  • Quarterbacks
  • Defensive Backs
  • Linebackers

Every camper is assigned a position group where college coaches give a 30 minute presentation on “how to play the position”, and “what instruction will be provided during the camp.” During the session campers review college game and practice film cut-ups along with drill tapes.

Campers also receive a “College Coach Tip Sheet”, which contains helpful hints on playing the position. After the Chalk Talk & Film Session campers apply what was learned in the film session on the field.

INSTRUCTION

Use football as a vehicle to improve the number of high school students in under-served communities that graduate high school and also attend college. Our mission is to create well rounded young men that understand the GIU formula for SUCCESS:

SPEED SCHOOL

GRIDIRON UNIVERSITY will focus training proper running form and techniques to get the most out of an athlete’s ability. Not only will we focus on straight ahead speed, but also proper multi-direction agility techniques will be taught and drilled. Participants will notice a difference in their speed and form by the end of the camp. Participants will also be shown drills that they can practice on their own.

1 VS 1 COMPETITION

During 1vs1 Competition participants are allowed to compete against some of the top talent in America. During this period Student-Athletes are able to showcase their talents in front of media and college coaches.
